Rodger Bingham is remembered from Survivor
2 Outback as a most interesting
figure. Known back home by the
nickname 'Kentucky Joe', Rodger
simultaneously showed strength and
compassion, exhibited both manliness and
courtesy. He typically addresses
others as 'sir' and 'ma'am' in the
old-fashioned way, and one is hard-pressed
to recall a single instance where Rodger
had an unkind word to say about anyone.
During his time
in Australia Rodger developed a particular
kinship with the unlikeliest of his fellow
contestants, the young and lithesome
Elisabeth Filarski. The two spent a
great deal of time together, enjoying
conversations that Rodger later likened to
sharing time with his daughter of a
similar age.
Rodger had a
presence on Survivor 2 similar to Rudy
Boesch's the season before: he was an
elder who maintained a decorum that
commanded the respect and admiration of
everyone he encountered.
