Robert DeCanio's favorite sentiment ~
expressed before every Tribal Council at
which he felt vulnerable ~ was that he'd
arrived in Tahiti with four things and
intended to leave with all of them whole.
He was referring to his pride, dignity,
integrity, and knapsack, and except for a
slightly tattered knapsack he did indeed
leave the island with his head high and
everything else intact.
For awhile Robert was on pace to go the distance as
one-quarter of a rock-solid alliance that
had mapped out a sequence of evictions right
through the final four. But
Survivor 4: Marquesas was rife with
surprises, the alliance faltered, and its
best-laid plans went awry.
We'll remember Rob for his steady manner, a low-key
presence, and perhaps most of all for a
quick wit that delivered more than its share
of comical one-liners. The New Yorker
did himself proud.
