SURVIVOR 8 ALL-STARS ~ In an
interview, host Jeff Probst said it best
himself, and we shant argue:
"Rob is the blue collar dude from Boston. Three gold chains around his
neck he finds a cute girl, tucks her under his arm, builds
her a shelter
and starts annihilating the enemy, saying 'Stick with me, we'll go all the way'. That's romantic. That's kick-ass.
In the jungle, man, that's how it should be." |

Rob Mariano practically stole the show in
the Marquesas. The rough & tumble
Bostonian presented himself as a Mafia
Godfather, a self-proclaimed manipulator of
events & castaways both. It was
entertaining to be sure, but it didn't carry
Rob any further in the game than the tribal
merge. What he failed to consider in
adopting his Mafioso persona was the simple
fact that a real-life Godfather rules
through fear & intimidation, whereas on
Survivor ~ with cameras rolling and a
crew of 200 monitoring every insect bite ~
the opportunities for waving sawed-off
shotguns and whacking off horses' heads are
decidedly limited.
Nevertheless Rob's performance was memorable, his
quotes & snippets could fill a highlight
reel all their own, and he is undeniably
deserving of a dedicated display case in the
Survivor museum. Like other
popular SurvivorHunks before him, Rob will
be remembered and talked about for a long,
long time.
