If Survivor 2 Outback had a
comedian and resident cynic it was Jeff
Varner, whose screen time was invariably
rich in sarcasm & sardonicism of a
sort that reminded some of Jerry Seinfeld.
He seemed to derive great glee from
deriding the frailties and peculiarities
of his fellow tribemembers, and never
hesitated to express his views
accordingly. But the game itself
didn't go the way Jeff would've
hoped. Had Michael Skupin not been
victimized by a fluke accident Jeff might
have made the final three, instead he was
the first to be voted off after the
mid-series tribal merger.
Since Australia
Jeff has been among the more visible
reality TV instant celebs, making the
rounds with appearances from coast to
coast. He was seen by millions a
second time on CBS, as part of the Survivor
foursome who stayed overnight in the Big
Brother house ~ a program he also
analyzed for the CBS affiliate in Los
Angeles.
It remains to be
seen just exactly how far Jeff Varner's
celebrity status will carry him, but one
thing seems certain: he'll get there with
humor and flair.
