B.B. Andersen showed what he was made of
on Survivor. He was gruff,
no-nonsense, and hard-working ~ the very
sort of chap one would ordinarily think
would be virtually indispensable if one
were ever *really* lost on a deserted
tropical island somewhere.
But of course,
reality television isn't reality at
all. There were well over 200 CBS
staffers on Pulau Tiga along with those 24
castaways, leading one-and-all to a sense
of security and comfort that quickly
brought interpersonal relationships to
bear on the fate of each contestant, and
from that standpoint B.B. simply had to
go. For even while getting the work
done, even while building a shelter that
would be the envy of true island natives,
B.B. seemed overbearing and critical,
seemed in just too much of a hurry, things
the youthful generation found unwelcome and refused to bear any
longer than necessary.
Nonetheless B.B.
made a memorable mark in Malaysia, and
will be forever remembered in TV lore as
the first male ever voted off CBS Survivor
series.
